Do you agree when something in our lives is abundant, we should share in the abundance?  With salt being the sixth most abundant element in the Earth’s crust, no wonder it’s so inexpensive to buy.  With my Economics minor we studied supply/demand and the concepts in the class were logical to me while others seem to struggle and were bored to salt tears with break even points, horizontal and vertical axis, equilibrium and so on.  Sorry if I’m boring you…

Have you considered the significance of salt in our lives before?  It’s abundant, inexpensive, a necessity mineral of life, adds a kick of flavor to almost any food, and never seems to go bad.  Even the little girl on the salt box is holding her umbrella up while dumping salt on the ground as she walks!   I have to say that I didn’t put much thought into salt until a series of messages keep surfacing, so there must be much more to it than a seasoning for our food!  My first trigger was my husband in conversation mentioned someone as the “salt of the earth” type guy–not a typically everyday comment I hear on a day to day basis.  Wow, that hit deep in my heart, I wondered why?  The next clue as I was cleaning out my drawers, I found a book my oldest son wrote in 3rd grade.  It was titled “My Third Grade Year Collection”.  One entry and visual was a boat sailing on the ocean blue, the sun shining brightly in the sky and six green snakes on the sailboat.  He wrote, “six stupid snakes sadly sailed over the seven salty seas.”  Another tug about salt from a kid in 3rd grade.

My faith walk has been one of heart tugs and research to learn more about faith in general.  In my research on salt, I learned that Jesus refers to his disciples as “the salt of the earth.”  I also learned the Sermon on the Mount and Salt and Light passages refer to roles for the disciples to be like a light from a city, viewable from all over the world, and to be spread out as salt, to congregate and spread.  When you have an abundance of faith, you should share it—It doesn’t cost anything to share faith, it gives an array of seasoned tastes to others spirits along with hope, it never goes bad or out of date, and it is a necessity to life!  Be the salt and light of the earth…

Salt and Light

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
