To sow is to reap…to reap good blessings is to always sow good seeds. How do we know if we are sowing good seeds? Life has a way of telling us, I believe… In times of harvest as a young teenager, I was expected to wake early when the dew was heavy and the air was still filled with the sounds of summertime bugs. My father expected me to windrow as a young teen when my friends were still sleeping or lazing about and life didn’t seem fair. What I didn’t realize at the time was how much those early mornings shaped my heart to harvest something good out of my experiences. As a teenager, all I could think of was this wasn’t fair, and WHY do I have to work these fields running this huge piece of equipment that I don’t have any business running?? Poor me….

Today, I have a different view of those days… I actually love to remember the early morning dew on the grass listening to the birds and the bugs before working the fields of plenty. I also remember listening to the “CARS” tape over and over since it was the only music I had to drown out the loud combine noise once the engine started. To reflect on those memories anchors me in my beginnings of reaping what my Father worked so hard to plant. The crop that grew from his labor not only fed our cattle, but fed our families as well from the beef that we grew up on. I still hold the key to the windrow as a keepsake that hangs on the door from my Great Grandparents house to remind me of my roots.

I believe…when we sow seeds of kindness, we reap friends. When we sow seeds of goodness, we help others. When we sow seeds of gratitude, then we open the door to more blessings. When we sow negativity, then we welcome more bad things in our life. When we sow selfishness, then we threatened our personal relationships. When we sow LOVE, then not only does it grow, but it multiplies and spreads to a bountiful crop that never dies. Remember to try and always sow things of goodness and your life will always be a field that needs to be harvested…
